Stories for your weekend [10.26.14]

I've streamlined my blog categories as I hope it'll make your reading experience easier here. Click on the tags below each post that I write to read more on: identity, beautiful little moments, motherhood in the trenches, travel, living with intention, feasting, ministry of real life, marriage and story. I thought I'd collect some links for many of the topics that I write on for your reading pleasure this weekend: Motherhood in the trenches: Here's an article about how to connect and be present with your children. I loved what she said here about delighting in our kids: "To “delight” in someone, we notice and reflect back their strengths, gifts, talents, and progress." Story: I just recently came across this website, A Deeper Story, where a group of writers write from the vantage point of the Christian Story and tackle such topics as culture, family and church, all whilst retaining the power of narrative over didacticism. Travel: Tsh from The Art of Simple is traveling across the world with her family. She has a dedicated site to her reflections. They're currently in east Asia. Feasting: Here's a fabulous gluten-free recipe for pumpkin chocolate chip bread. Even better, no refined sugar and it's sweet still with a date/maple syrup paste! We've made two loaves that have disappeared in the last week! Bake some to share with friends and neighbors. Living with Intention: A great article in The Atlantic about the pursuit of happiness versus the pursuit of meaning. Beautiful moments: I have recently started following this lady on Instagram. She captures beautiful little moments. Coffee, fall leaves, Penguin classics. Happy weekend! Stories for your weekend [10.19.14]
October 19, 2014 at 7:00 am 1
As you're curled up under a cozy blanket with something warm in your hands, read along with me. Here's your carefully curated list of encouragement this weekend!

Fall is gorgeous in Utah! (Image Credit)

To read:
  • Read Mary Oliver's poem, "I don't want to be demure or respectable," from her new book, Blue Horses, she shared with Vogue. Love her care for words, wit and spunk!
  • For my mamas in the trenches, here's an article on giving your children grace. "It was God versus Sin, and we were co-warriors in this battle."
  • What not to say to a father of four. This rang true for me, a mama of 4. But it also beautifully shows us how we all can feel ourselves to be so complex while we caricature others.
  • In love with lettering and school supplies, I've started a fun Pinterest board for all things hand-written.

Against All Grain: Pumpkin Spice Latte (linked below)

And on my list of things to do and make this Fall weekend:
  • I've been making a healthy version of this paleo Pumpkin Spice Lattes (I know I said in this post that I want to get them from Starbucks regardless of the chemicals; truth is, I don't have the funds for $4 lattes, so I make them). Anyway, it's simple and fabulous! Combine about 1 1/2 cups coffee, 1/2 cup almond milk, 2-3 dates, 2-3 T of pureed pumpkin, and pumpkin pie spice in high-speed blender (I use a Vitamix). The dates sweeten it and make it thick! Yum!
  • These yummy and healthy breakfast treats are on my to-make list.
  • We're planning to go on a hike with friends with Monday since the kids are off school. Here's one of my favorite pictures of my three boys hiking this summer.

Weekend Link-up
October 5, 2014 at 6:00 am 1
During my 31 days series I'm taking a cue from Jacey and planning to use one weekend day to link up to some blog posts from established writers and others taking part in the 31 day challenge that have relevance to finding beauty in the mundane. Enjoy finding some new reads, friends! What have you been reading? What thoughts are swirling around in your heads? I'm re-reading some parts of my favorite novels (art begets art) and have about 10 books that I'm in the midst of on my nightstand. I can never just read one at a time. -- flower photo1 This is the fifth post for the Write 31 days challenge, where I’ll be writing every day through the month of October.
